HARARE - Police yesterday stormed Harvest House, the MDC headquarters in central Harare,on the prowl for youths who allegedly assaulted party deputy treasurer-general Elton Mangoma last week.

Douglas Mwonzora, MDC spokesperson, who is also the legal representative for the wanted persons, told the Daily News that the police had a list of seven youths who include Harare provincial youth chairperson Shakespeare Mukoyi, the party deputy chairperson Morgen Komichi’s driver Steven Jahwi, Enock Mukandi, Rhino Mashaya, Francis Machidzofa, Paul Gorekore and Samson Nerwande.

Mwonzora said he would accompany the group to the police today.

“If Mangoma had been attacked by so many people, how could he have survived? This is an internal purge against those opposed to their plan,” Mwonzora told the Daily News.

Efforts to obtain comment from the police were futile last night.

Mangoma and secretary-general, Tendai Biti and youth assembly secretary-general, Promise Mkwananzi were assaulted last week by a group of party youths for allegedly calling on Tsvangirai to step down.

Mangoma was attacked when he stepped outside Harvest House soon after Tsvangirai had finished holding a one-day meeting with the 210 district chairpersons.

Mangoma had his shirt torn and spectacles damaged in the melee. He claims he  was beaten up by a group of over 20 youths.
