HARARE - Dynamos face their third early exit from the African Champions League in as many years unless they can produce something special in the second leg of their first round tie against S Vita next weekend.
DeMbare spurned the chance to go further in the tournament as they were held to a nil all draw at the National Sports Stadium by the Congolese outfit on Saturday.
The Harare giants have not made an impact on the continental club competition since they last reached the mini-league phase in 2010.
With the kind of well-coordinated play displayed by the Congolese team in the first leg, Calisto Pasuwa’s men would need to be at their very best to come up with a positive in the reverse fixture in Kinshasa.
Dynamos need a win or scoring draw to progress, but given their less than impressive away record of the past three years, a mammoth task await them in the Congo.
Pasuwa conceded the goalless draw could prove costly.
“We played the entire 90 minutes and we couldn’t score but I believe it’s still game on,” Pasuwa told reporters after the match.
“You never know, we can go there and score goals. Today we lacked aggression in 50-50 situations. I felt we gave them too much respect.”
Pasuwa however gave credit to Vita, saying their strategy worked well away from home.
“They are a very good side, very compact,” he said.
“You saw the way they were playing, they looked at home. And we are saying when we go out there; we should not defend but play an open game so that we can get those goals.
“Football is changing every day. We might go there and win. We also need a scoring draw so anything can happen. It’s now difficult in the Champions league but anything is possible.”
AS Vita coach Florent Ibenge admitted his main objective was to contain Dynamos in Harare and then kill off the tie in the second leg in the Congo.
