HARARE - Bulawayo and Harare will resonate with the vibrant sounds, sights, and tastes of the French-speaking world during the Francophonie Week set to run from March 10 to 22.
A glut of celebratory events will take place at Alliance Francaise, Prince Edward School, Jean de la Fontaine French School in Harare, Academy of music and John Knight Cinema in Bulawayo.
The coming together of the Alliance Francaise and the European Union along with embassies of France, Canada, Switzerland, Belgium, Greece, Algeria and D.R.C during the internationally-celebrated Francophonie Week will expose Zimbabweans to top-class concerts, theatrical performances, films and culinary tastings.
The celebrations will present an opportunity to take part in the Sing your way to Paris competition in which one Zimbabwean stands to win an all-expenses paid trip to Paris for two weeks.
This event is sponsored by Bon Marche and anyone between the ages of 14 to 26 is welcome to come and register at the Alliance Francaise.
Other events to look forward to include a film festival of French movies with English subtitles and a spelling competition and quiz meant to encourage the learning of French.
The Embassy of France is also sponsoring 2 participants aged between 18 and 25 who will take part in a four-week International Youth Exchange Programme in France. Interested students must contact the Alliance Francaises for more information.
