HARARE - Zimbabwe's junior men and women hockey teams went into camp in Harare yesterday to prepare for next week’s Youth Olympic Games Qualifiers in Lusaka, Zambia.
The tournament will run between May 10 and 15.
Two teams from each category qualify for the Youth Olympic Games to be held in China in August.
Both the men and women’s sides will contest for slots against South Africa, Namibia, Kenya and the hosts.
In a statement yesterday, Hockey Association of Zimbabwe secretary Humphrey Chigwedere said Nigeria pulled out of the men’s section, leading to a few changes to the fixtures.
“The Hockey Association of Zimbabwe would like express its gratitude to the parents who helped by raising funds for the teams as well as the following sponsors who assisted the association in making it possible to send these teams to represent the country; Agristructures, Reinke, CWT Aquarius Shipping, Absolute Sport, Intercrop, Cropserve, and Alro Shipping. Appreciation also goes to Chisipite Schools and Arundel School for the use or their facilities and grounds during the preparations for the tournament,” read the Haz statement.
Prince Mwale will coach the men’s side while the women will be under the guidance of Colleen Nativel.
