HARARE - Kadoma-born dancehall artiste Christopher ‘Chrissy B’ Isaac has dedicated his second album titled Another Level to be released during the Easter holidays to the late mbira queen Chiwoniso Maraire who was his mentor.
The 28-year-old artiste says the death of the mbira star last year was a huge setback for his fledgling career.
“Chiwoniso had become much more than a mentor to me; she had become more or less my manager,” said Chrissy B.
“Her death set my career backwards in a big way because she was very helpful to me.”
The dancehall artiste also regards the six-track Another Level as a major statement to his detractors who have been preaching his demise.
“Many people were saying negative things about me when I was in South Africa doing some studies. Some said I could not do anything meaningful in music anymore.
“I did the track Munondivengerei as a direct response to my detractors. Music fans should come to sample my new music project at Odyssey in Kadoma where I will launch the album during the Easter holidays,” said Chrissy B whose idols are Jamaican dancehall chanter General
Degree and Decibel who is now based in the United Kingdom.
The album contains tracks such as Ndichirikutsvaga, Upenyu Hwangu, Munondivengerei, Girl I, Murudo and Ndoda Kamukana.
Chrissy B attracted national attention in 2002 when he released his debut album Ndichirikutsvaga.
The album included the song Tariro which became a major hit on the country’s radio stations.
