HARARE - Oriental Quarries Promotions Boxing Coach Mike Zulu says Charles Manyuchi is itching to claim the vacant WBC international welterweight title adding that Ghanaian Patrick Allotey in for defeat when the two trade leather next Saturday.
The Zimbabwean boxer, who holds the African Boxing Union (ABU) welterweight belt, fights Allotey for the vacant World Boxing Council (WBC) welterweight title at the Government Complex in Lusaka.
Zambia’s ABU bantamweight women champion Cathrine Phiri, the female Africa Boxing Union champion, will be fighting Pia Mazelanik of Germany for the vacant WBC silver bantamweight title.
Zulu who trains the two boxers is upbeat that his pugilists will emerge victories in next Saturday's World Boxing Council title bouts.
"My boxers want the fight even tomorrow; they can't wait for March 15. We have prepared well and we are ready," Zulu told Zambian publication yesterday.
He said fans should expect to see fine, matured and fully-fledged boxers next weekend.
"We now have matured boxers, you will see different boxers, well prepared boxers," said Zulu.
The Masvingo-born boxer comes into the bout with a record of 20 fights – 18 victories, one draw and one defeat.
There will be three supporting bouts on the night with Zimbabwe’s Takudzwa Kuchocha taking on Congolese welterweight boxer Mbiya Kanku.
Zimbabwean Monalisa Sibanda will go against Zambia’s Lolita Muzeya in a welterweight non-title contest, whilst Zimbabwe’s Wesley MacDade will face Zambian light-heavyweight Donald Kampamba.
