HARARE - Zimbabwe's new domestic football season is set to begin at the end of the month with Highlanders coach Kelvin Kaindu declaring his team ready to challenge for honours.
Bosso have been busy during the off season, acquiring several seasoned players in an effort to better their second place from the previous three years.
The Bulawayo giants has for the past three years lost the championship race to DeMbare on goal difference, which has seen them continue to live in the shadow of their bitter rivals.
But having managed to assemble a good looking squad ahead of the new season, Zambian Kaindu says his team will gun for all trophies on offer this term.
Bosso have acquired a number of exciting players such as returning midfielder Joel Ngodzo and lively winger Kuda Mahachi.
Mahachi, one of Zimbabwe’s best players at January’s Chan finals in South Africa, has been loaned to Bosso for six months by Absa Premiership giants Mamelodi Sundowns, who have secured his transfer for Zimbabwean club Chicken Inn.
Highlanders, winners of the Mbada Diamonds Cup last year, have also roped in club junior product Charles Sibanda, who made his name at Motor Action and FC Platinum.
Also joining are defender Felix Chindungwe, Khumbulani Banda, Valentine Ndaba and Mkhululi Dube, while Rahman Kutsanzira re-joins from CAPS United.
Highlanders play Dynamos in the Bob 90 Super Cup on Sunday at Rufaro Stadium, and Kaindu has rallied his players to start the season on a high.
“We are trying to work extra hard for the coming season. What is needed now is implementation because I think we have bought the best players capable of facing anyone in the league,” Kaindu told the Daily News.
“We are working on cohesion and combinations of the team. We want to make the players understand the culture of the club and our philosophy as well.
“With the squad that we have I think we are prepared for the league and any other tournament that we might participate in.”
On their match against Dynamos at the weekend, Kaindu said: “Everyone is excited about participating in this cup. It’s an important match to us which we are taking seriously. There is a lot at stake.
“The game will help us see how far we have gone in preparing for the new season. Dynamos have got an advantage. They have a good side also and we have respect for them.
“We are not, however, looking much into what they are doing. We are going there to play good football. We want to entertain those who will come to watch the game.
“We will give them a good run for their money and I think the better team will win at the end of the day.”
