HARARE - Ignatius Mketekete rallied from behind to win the first tournament on the Zambezi Tour 2014 calendar, the Tour Players Championship at Wingate Park Golf Club on Saturday.
Mketekete won the tournament on the first play-off hole after finishing tied on five-under 136 together with defending champion Tongo Charamba.
The Chapman Golf Club-based pro began the second round in third place two shots behind Charamba after carding a three-under 69 on the first day on Friday.
Mketekete, however, recovered to eclipse second-placed Zambian Madalisto Muthiya and eventually finish the tourney tied with Charamba.
In the end, Mketekete held his nerves to win the $1 600 prize for first place by edging his fellow Chapman-based pro on the first play-off hole.
Charamba received $1 040 for coming in second place while third-placed Muthiya who pocketed $800 as he carded a final score of seven-under 137.
Another Chapman-based golfer Robson Saurombe finished in fourth place with a score of five-under 139 while fifth place was occupied by Mohammad Mandhu on two-under 142.
The Zambezi Tour now moves to Royal Harare where the Pre-Open Classic will be played next Thursdayand Friday.
