HARARE - A Chiweshe woman who killed her husband’s brother has been arraigned before the High Court on murder charges.

Maria Goche was only brought to book on allegations of murdering Lukas Zarira, after police received an anonymous tip-off through a letter that was dropped at their offices.

According to State papers, Peter Karenga, member-in-charge at Gweshe Base, is the one who picked up the letter, claiming the murdered man was about to be buried, without a police report.

The court heard when Karenga made inquiries about the circumstances surrounding Zarira’s death, he was told the man had fallen on his door step.

It is alleged that the incident took place in March 2012, in Chief Negomo’s area.

The court heard Zarira and Goche had a misunderstanding over  a debt.

They allegedly exchanged harsh words, which eventually led to a fist fight. Patience Muzenje restrained the two and Zarira started walking away from the scene.

Prosecutors claim that Goche then picked up a brick and hit Zarira on the left side of the head.

Zarira fell onto the ground, and was immediately rushed to Dambo Clinic, before he was transferred to Howard Mission Hospital for further treatment.

He later died the following day, while admitted at the hospital.

A post-mortem examination conducted concluded that Zarira had died as a result of head injuries secondary to trauma.
