HARARE - Drama star Norman “Landlord” Chiranga ,32 ,who was propelled to stardom by his riveting Landlord Series on ZBC-TV, will release a new production called Tsoro Mbiri before the end of the month.
The Budiriro-based artist, who is an actor, scriptwriter and producer rolled into one, told the Daily News yesterday that the forthcoming drama series will be a sequel to the hugely successful comedy Gogo paWhatsapp that featured popular dendera music singer Tryson Chimbetu.
“There were several issues left hanging in Gogo paWhatsapp and my fans are anxious to know what happened to the landlord’s wives after he drank what seemed like poison,” said Chiranga.
Chiranga, a master of suspense and a comedian extraordinaire, acts as Chirebvu, a pompous and womanising landlord with a penchant for expensive tastes and women who always runs into trouble in a hilarious manner.
The 32-year-old drama star is convinced that Tsoro Mbiri will turn out to be the best of the eight productions he has made to date.
“Like wine I am getting better with each production. The quality of my productions is improving in a big way,” said Chiranga.
The Gogo paWhatsapp creator, however, admits that there is room for improvement.
“I am appealing to sponsors to come in and partner me in this viable project. I have a great vision for this project and am confident that if I am able to use appropriate resources like cars, houses and hotels when shooting then I will deliver quality products.”
“I am appealing for sponsors to partner me on a mutually-beneficial basis to make my popular drama project a success.”
Chiranga, who is married to Mitchell Kamwamusunga and is a father of a two-year-old boy, told the Daily News that his experiences as a lodger inspired him to create a drama series that unpacks difficulties that result from shortage of houses for urban dwellers.
In an ironic twist of fate, Chiranga nearly got into trouble recently when he innocently asked his landlord to show him water and electricity bills.
“Recently, I asked my landlord to show me water and electricity bills and he misconstrued my intentions because of the fact that I created the Landlord drama series,” he said.
