HARARE - The National Federation of Zimbabwe Bodybuilding and Fitness (NFZBBF) has made public its 2014 calendar, which will see the first competition of the year take place next month.

Mr and Ms Novice, a competition for beginners, will open the season on April 26 at the Bodytech Health Studio in Harare.

This will be followed by Mr and Ms Ironman on June 7 at a venue to be announced. Musclemania Zimbabwe will be staged on August 30 at its traditional home, Ochi City, while Mr and Ms Zimbabwe, the country's premier bodybuilding contest, concludes the events on November 1 at a venue to be announced.

The calendar unveiling coincides with the resignation of NFZBBF interim president, Otis Goredema, whose notice was accepted by the Sport and Recreation Commission (SRC) last Friday.

"After almost three months I'm relieved to say that SRC finally accepted my resignation, they had given me time to re-consider but my decision was final," Goredema told the Daily News yesterday.

"It was a difficult decision but I have many personal commitments that demand my full attention hence living me without enough time to dedicate to a volunteer post in the NFZBBF. The SRC are doing an excellent job in working with sports associations and things work better when we abide by their requirements. I believe that there are many people who are quite capable to take over and get the association to dizzy heights."

Goredema leaves NFZBBF after 14 months at the helm having taken over from Shamim Hussein, who threw in his towel last year.

"We had a great season last year but the low point will obviously be losing former bodybuilding great George Takundwa, who passed away in January last year," he added.

"The high point will definitely be the association helping Kays Rushika, who had a successful triple bypass surgery in India in July."

A new president will be elected at Body Tech Gym on Saturday.
