HARARE - An ex-convict yesterday told a Harare Civil Court that his girlfriend falsely got him arrested for rape.
Simbarashe Mudhuru told magistrate Gamuchirai Siwardi that his girlfriend Privilege Gwatidzo reported him to the police after he told her he no longer loved her after discovering love messages from another man on her mobile phone.
Mudhuru, who was seeking a protection order against Gwatidzo, claims she was refusing to have the affair terminated.
“We were in a relationship with Privilege and I asked her if our love affair was going to last after I discovered love messages on her phone,” Mudhuru said.
“She was exchanging love messages with her ex-boyfriend and the two wanted to reconcile. We then broke up and she reported me to the police, saying I had raped her.’’
Mudhuru, the court heard, had been in prison for 10 years. He begged the court to evict Gwatidzo, saying she was refusing to leave his house.
Gwatidzo refuted her boyfriend’s allegations. She said the two loved each other but the main problem was that her parents did not accept Mudhuru because he was an ex-convict.
Magistrate Siwardi dismissed Mudhuru’s application for a protection order.
She said eloping was part of traditional marriage so if he wanted to end the affair with Gwatidzo, he should do it the traditional way.
