HARARE – The Zimbabwe women cricket team hosts Namibia in three Twenty20 matches games as they fine tune for next month’s ICC Women Africa T20 World Cup Qualifiers scheduled for Windhoek.
The Namibians are expected to arrive in the country around midday tomorrow and head straight into the series which gets underway with the first two games at Takashinga Cricket Grounds in Highfield.
The first match is on Monday and the second is scheduled for Tuesday before the series winds to an end on Wednesday at Harare Sports Club.
Zimbabwe will then leave for South Africa on Friday for T20 games against that country’s provincial sides to further prepare for the September qualifiers.
Team manager Carol Nyamande is upbeat that with such amount of game time the team stands a better chance of making it to the Global Qualifiers.

“The team has been in a camp for a long time while preparing for a tour to Namibia before the programme changed a bit because our hosts said their grounds were not ready to host us since they are preparing them for the qualifiers, so we ended up inviting them to come over because what’s important is that at least the girls get enough time on the wicket,” Nyamande told the Daily News.
“We would have wanted to go to Namibia and get an opportunity to acclimatise with the conditions but all the same we are grateful for their visit and look forward to an entertaining series.
“Our girls are excited to take to the field and showcase what they have learnt in training and with another game-laden series lined-up against South African provincial sides, we wouldn’t have asked for better preparations.”
Chipo Mugeri has retained her captaincy after being away on maternity leave while stand-in captain Sharne Mayers reverts back to her all-round tag and will be looking forward to help the team on both fronts.
