HARARE - Another MDC activist who is accused of assaulting suspended party deputy treasurer Elton Mangoma appeared in court yesterday.
Denford Ngadziore, 32, appeared before Harare magistrate Tendai Mahwe facing assault charges.
He was remanded to April 14, on $100 bail.
Ngadziore is jointly charged with Francis Mafimbidzofa, 38, Enock Mukudu, 31, Stefani Tafadzwa Jahwi, 36, Samson Tumai Nerwande, 41, who were released on $100 bail each, and James Chidhakwa who has been denied bail.
Ngadziore was ordered to reside at his given address and not interfere with State witnesses as part of his bail conditions.
Accused persons allege that Mangoma fingered them in the offence to settle political scores. They claim that police officers falsely implicated them in the offence
before conducting thorough investigations.
Prosecutor Tungamirai Chakurira alleged that on February 15 this year, Ngadziore, Gorekore, Mafimbidzofa, Mukudu, Jahwi, Nerwande, Chidhakwa and others who are still at large reportedly waylaid Mangoma outside Harvest House and confronted him as he tried to take refuge in MDC president, Morgan Tsvangirai’s vehicle.
They allegedly assaulted Mangoma with open hands and clenched fists.
Mangoma’s spectacles valued at $300 were damaged in the attack.
Accused persons also tore Mangoma’s shirt before he was whisked away in Morgan Tsvangirai’s vehicle.
A medical affidavit produced in court states that Mangoma sustained moderate injuries and there was no likelihood of permanent injuries.
