HARARE - A man has reportedly been bashing his girlfriend if she refuses to make love to him or is not in the mood for intimacy, the court has heard.
Cuthbert Tapiwa allegedly assaults and harasses his girlfriend Febbie Chidzvova over sex.
Chidzvova yesterday hauled Tapiwa before the Harare Civil Court seeking a protection order against him.
She told magistrate Gamuchirai Siwardi that Tapiwa was too possessive and does not want her to speak to her workmates over the phone.
“He is my boyfriend and harasses and assaults me regularly,” Chidzvova said.
“If I refuse to have sexual intercourse with him or if I am not in the mood for it, he assaults me. At times he shouts at me in the middle of the night.
“He does not want me to talk to my workmates and sometimes he locks me out of my own house. He also suspects that I am having affairs with other men.”
Tapiwa refuted his girlfriend’s allegations. He said the problem was that she receives calls in the middle of the night.
“I have never forced her to sleep with me,” argued Tapiwa.
“As I am talking right now, it has been three months without having sexual intercourse with her. She told me to leave my job in Botswana saying she would give me money to start a business but now she is treating me like her maid.
“I do all the household chores. She plans and spends her money without consulting me and now I am suffering because of her,” Tapiwa said.
Magistrate Siwardi ordered Tapiwa not to verbally and physically abuse Chidzvova and refrain from threatening her.
