HARARE - Taurai Mangwiro says his CAPS United side will not change their game plan when they travel to Bulawayo to take on Highlanders at Barbourfields Stadium.
The Green Machine has had an inconsistent start to the 2014 Castle Premiership season winning two games, drawing two and losing one in the five games they have played so far.
That topsy-turvy form has left United in sixth place on the log with eight points and trail log leaders Hwange by three points.
In midweek, Mangwiro had every reason to smile after watching his side brush aside the challenge of Triangle with a 2-1 win at the National Sports Stadium on Thursday.
That win has restored the confidence in the Makepekepe side and Mangwiro believes his side can now go to Barbourfields Stadium and cause an upset tomorrow.
“We will play for three points. It’s not like they would be any added bonus points for beating Highlanders.” Mangwiro said of his team’s ambitions against the Bulawayo giants.
“It was important that we maximise here today and it gives us the much needed confidence come Sunday at Barbourfields.”
Fullbacks Tapiwa Kumbuyani and Ronald Pfumbidzayi were on target for the Green Machine against Triangle and Mangwiro hopes his forwards will come to the party in Bulawayo.
Mangwiro gave new signing Ishmael Thindwa his Makepekepe against Triangle but the Malawian striker failed to find the back on the net.
Thindwa was involved in the build up play but lacked the killer instinct in the final third where it matters most.
“I know expectations are high and he gave a good account for himself,” Mangwiro said of Thindwa’s debut. “I’m happy for him and with more game time he will continue to grow.”
Besides producing draws in their last two games, Highlanders have fared fairly well so far this season sitting in third place on the log after collecting nine points from a possible 15.
The Bulawayo giants, who are yet to lose this season, kicked-off their 2014 campaign with a draw with a goalless draw with Chapungu before back-to-back wins over Chiredzi FC and Shabanie Mine.
Bosso have, however, dropped four points in their last two matches after identical 1-1 draws with Hwange and Chicken Inn at Barbourfields in their last two matches.
What has made the two draws disappointing for the Bosso fans is that the club has got into good positions to win matches but end up throwing their leads.
On Thursday, Highlanders were leading 1-0 before allowing the Gamecocks to equalise through George Majika in the fourth minute of added time.
Bosso go into tomorrow’s game without head coach, Kelvin Kaindu who is attending his UEFA B coaching license graduation in the United Kingdom.
With the Zmabian away, assistant coach Mark Mathe will be in charge of the side and he will be hoping that his defence will be able to keep a clean sheet against the Green Machine.
Upfront, the Bulawayo giants have also been struggling for goals with goalkeeper Munyaradzi Diya being their top scorer with three goals.
