BULAWAYO - Kevin Pangiso won the tightly contested Choppies Fun Run race ahead of Elijah Mabhunu by just one second at Nkulumane Shopping Complex in Bulawayo on Sunday.
The two runners showed their intentions half way through the race as they started to drift away from the rest of the leading pack.
It became a two horse race as the pair moved at a pace that the rest of the leading athletes could not cope with.
The Zimbabwe Prison Services athlete won the race in 30:31 minutes, while Mabhunu came home with a time of 30:32 minutes.
Pangiso and Mabhunu entered the race in a partnership and will share the prize mony they won equally.
“We are family men and we came here to look for money to feed our families. You can only succeed if you work as a team that’s why we teamed up with Ejijah (Mabhunu) and our plan worked. Whatever we got we will share equally.” Pangiso said
The winners of the race went home R5000 richer, while the others got R3000, R1500 and R500 in their winning order.
Third place went to Phathisa Ngwabi, who finished with a time of 31:00 minutes while Isaac Mpofu arrived home after 31:13 minutes.
In the ladies category, the race’s defending champion Rutendo Nyahora once again prevailed with a time of 35:17 minutes to reclaim her title.
Olivia Chitate finished second with a time of 35:54 minutess while in third place there was Faith Nyasango, who finished with a time of 37:17 minutes.
In the junior boys’ category, Wellington Varevi came first and was followed by Tendai Zimuto while Daniel Ncube came third.
Rosetta Mandebvu won the junior girls’ race while second place went to Faith Moyo and with Rosemary Moyo coming third.
In the wheelchair men’s category, Samson Muroiwa came home first while second place went to n Elford Moyo with Munyaradzi Katiyo in third plce.
In the women’s wheelchair category, Thandiwe Ndlovu came first, while Magaret Bangajena was second and Madeline Madzivire came third.
