Mombeshora wins Sup8r award

HARARE - Shabanie Mine captain Tafadzwa Mombeshora received an early Christmas present after he was voted the2013 BancABC Sup8r Player of the Tournament.

Mombeshora had an outstanding Sup8r tournament and captained the asbestos miners to glory as they beat fellow Zvishavane-based side FC Platinum 5-3 on penalties back in September.

The two sides had played put a goalless draw in regulation time at Mandava Stadium.

Shabanie Mine pocketed $120 000 for winning the tournament while the platinum miners walked away $50 000.

Mombeshora is set to receive his award at a special banquet at a yet to confirmed venue and date after he topped the voting held last week.

The Sup8r Golden Boot will be shared between Shabanie Mine forward Tarisai Rukanda and Russell Madamombe of Dynamos.

On the same night, Shabanie Mine goalkeeper Victor Twaliki will be presented with the award for Goalkeeper of the Tournament for his outstanding performances for the Chinda Boys.

Meanwhile the PSL says they are in negotiations with the merchant bank for a renewal of their sponsorship of the tournament for next yer.

“The success of the 2013 edition immediately prompted a mutual commitment to further sponsor the 2014 edition from BancABC senior management,” the PSL said in a statement.

“BancABC Sup8r 2014 negotiations and tournament preparations are already underway, a review meeting with the sponsors has been held in order to discuss the challenges faced and adopt recommendations for a more successful 2014 tournament.”

A total of $25 500 was handed out in fines during the course of the tournament this year.

Shabanie were the worst affected after their fans invaded the pitch on two separate occasions and will have to pay a total of $16 000.

FC Platinum fans also invaded the pitch in their quarterfinal win over Highlanders and were fined $8 000.

Bosso team manager Willard Khumalo was fined $1 000 for using abusive language towards match officials during that match against FC Platinum.

Dynamos were fined $500 after their coach Calisto Pasuwa was expelled from the technical area in the quarterfinal clash with Buffaloes.
