HARARE - Zimbabwe rugby giants Old Georgians and Harare Sports Club will get fans' adrenaline pumping at OGs tomorrow when they clash in first big showdown of the new National Rugby League season.
Sports Club, once again, will heavily rely on their potent backline, well-marshalled by seasoned centre and Zimbabwe national captain Daniel Hondo.
On a good day, the Sports Club backline can steamroll any opponent, but their loose forwards will have to bring their A game to secure the ball, especially against OGs.
From their line-up released yesterday, it’s quite clear Old Georgians would target the set pieces.
They have named an all Sables front row, with props Pieter Joubert and Jakov Jakov teaming up with hooker Keith Murray. These three are likely to cause damage upfront.
Grant Mitchell’s men will also be looking to disrupt HSC at the breakdown, aiming to kill the quick ball from their opponents.
The Sables halfback showdown between OGs’ Hilton Mudariki and Sports Club’s Philimon Machisa is also likely to be an intriguing sideshow to this massive contest.
The match will probably be decided by which scrumhalf out-smarts the other.
Meanwhile, champions Old Hararians will take on Zvishavane Bulls in an earlier game at Old Georgians.
Bulawayo giants Old Miltonians are on the road this weekend for a date with Mutare Sports Club.
Western Panthers host Gweru Sports Club at Hartsfield Stadium Bulawayo in what should be another fiercely contested encounter.
