PE retain Hammer & Tongues title

HARARE - Prince Edward successfully defended Under-20 Hummer & Tongues invitational title after beating hosts St George’s College 3-0 over the weekend.

In the semi-finals, Prince Edward beat Cornway 4-2 in a penalty shootout to reach the finals, while St George’s walloped Marondera High 3-0.

Cornway College finished in third place after beating Marondera 3-0 in the third and fourth playoffs.

Churchill, who were tournament pre-favourites, did not live up to expectations after losing 2-0 to Cornway in the quarter-finals.

PE also managed to scoop four individual wards with Tatenda Mukuruva winning the goalkeeper of the tournament accolade, Blessing Nyamuziwa taking the most valuable player prize while Innocent Muringai and Tatenda Mazhindu won best defender and midfielder awards respectively.

Best player of the tournament went to St Georges’s Shingi Pasipanodya. Nqobile Mbiba from St John’s was crowned the most disciplined player of the tournament while Albert Matova of Cornway won the players’ player award.
