HARARE - Sungura artiste Peter “Young Igwe” Moyo and the Utakataka Express will begin shooting videos of songs off his maiden album Mushonga Mukuru this month.

The Utakataka Express manager Sukol Dube, confirmed the development in an interview with the Daily News yesterday.

“We have been working on our choreography since January this year and we are convinced that this is the right time to shoot the videos for our debut album,” he said.

“The DVD will be made up of six videos; two from Peter’s late father Tongai Moyo’s last album Toita Basa and four from Mushonga Mukuru.”

The forthcoming DVD shoot should come as a welcome respite for the Kwekwe-born musician who has been battling to shake off reports that he is in love with Tswana dancer-cum-musician Slizer.

Dube added that they shelved the shooting of videos for the late Tongai Moyo’s Toita Basa last year because the young artiste was under pressure from fans to release his maiden album.

“Our plans were to shoot videos for Toita Basa last year but the pressure for Peter to release his first album became too much and we were forced to comply with the fans’ wishes,” he said.

The Utakataka band manager said the DVD compilation has to be out before August when Young Igwe is expected to tour South Africa for the first time.

“We believe that our stage craft has improved tremendously and that is why we are now very keen to take the group outside Zimbabwe. We want to increase the marketing of Utakataka beyond the borders of Zimbabwe,” he said.

Dube also revealed that the Young Igwe’s second album would be released later this year.

“We have got a number of new songs and our challenge is to select the songs to include on the second album.

“We are planning to drop the album this year maybe after our South Africa tour and all the songs on this project will be Peter’s compositions.

On Mushonga Mukuru he included songs written by his father,” said the Utakataka manager.
