HARARE - Traditional leaders in Zvimba have told Local Government minister Ignatius Chombo to accept their preferred chief for the Beperere chieftaincy.

Chief Zvimba, born Stanley Mhondoro, told the Daily News after a meeting in Murombedzi yesterday that the resolutions from an April 4 meeting with President Robert Mugabe to install Harare provincial administrator Alfred Tome as chief must be upheld.

This  comes after Chombo had unilaterally installed Mathias Matare as the chief. Chief Zvimba said the chieftainship decision did not lie with Chombo but with the villagers and the clan members.

“The minister cannot decide for us,” Chief Zvimba said. “We know what we want and we will tell him what we want. We decide since we know who we want to take over as chief.   All he has to do is accept the outcome without getting involved.  “Hushe huneenda kuvaridzi vedzinza kwete munhuwo wekunze.

“Chombo has to accept the outcome of what we have decided.”

On April 4, Mugabe was forced to stop the inauguration of Matare as Chief Beperere after protests from other chiefs.
