HARARE - A man accused of killing a police officer has been remanded in custody until December 27.
Officer Timothy Mbova was found stripped naked and dead in Hatfield after being robbed of $48 and a mobile phone in September.
Chamunorwa Magwaza, 28, has admitted to the police that he committed the offence but did not plead when he appeared before Harare magistrate Donald Ndirowei.
Magwaza is jointly charged with Blessing Mungofa, 26, Kudakwashe Chikukwa, 18, Raymond Maguri, 25, Alois Samuel, 24, Shadreck Binze, 26, Mathew Murehwa, 23, and Daniel Mabhena,18, have already appeared in court on the same charge and are facing another robbery rap.
Prosecutor Sharon Mashavira alleged that on September 28, Mbova reported for duty at Harare Central Police Station.
He was reportedly deployed at the ‘Chibuku Road to Fame Show’ at the Harare Show Grounds from 10pm to 2am.
After completing his duty, he went to Harare Central Police Station where he was paid $48, the court heard.
Mbova then changed into civilian clothing while still at the police station before packing his uniform into a satchel.
He reportedly left to look for transport to ferry him to Mabvuku where he stayed. He was robbed and killed on his way home.
