HARARE - 2013 Zambezi Tour Money list winner Ryan Cairns is having a fairly decent season on the Sunshine Tour Order of Merit, where he is currently seating on number 43.
The Nelson Mandela Championship is the last event on the Tour before the curtain comes down on the 2013 season.
Harare-born Cairns’ position also makes him the highest ranked Zimbabwean on the Southern African professional golf tour.
The 29-year-old’s performance on the Sunshine Tour follows a dominant local season in which he won all the four Zambezi Tour tournaments he featured in en route to claiming $9,667.95 for his efforts.
The Royal Harare Golf Club attached golfer, however, has been punching above his weight on the Sunshine Tour, where he has so far played 23 tournaments and managed $45,555.27 in total earnings.
On the Sunshine Tour Cairns – achieved his highest positions when he finished number seven at the Golden Pilsner Zimbabwe Open, the Polokwane Classic and the Platinum Classic.
His highest earnings came after finishing 44th at the Alfred Dunhill Championship with a gross score of one over 289 and collecting $10,527.12.
United States-based Brendon De Jonge is on position 61 on the Sunshine Tour Money list and second Zimbabwean behind Cairns despite just playing just one tournament on the circuit.
The Pipers Glen attached golfer made a purse fund of $24,836.63 after taking position 16 in the Alfred Dunhill Championship.
The former St Johns College pupil had a gross score of four under 284 in that tournament.
Unattached Micky Hough is Zimbabwe’s third ranked player on the circuit after amassing $2,714.25 out of 19 tournaments he played on the circuit.
Tongoona Charamba, who failed to qualify in four Sunshine Tour tournaments, is on position 171.
The Chapman Golf Club-based golfer managed has made $1,282.41 out of three tournaments he has featured in.
Ignatius Mketekete seats on position 195 on the Sunshine Tour Money list after managing $542.85 in the 10 tournaments he has played.
