HARARE - Zimbabwe flank Andrew Rose came through a fitness test yesterday in time for month-end’s World Cup qualification tournament in Madagascar.
Rose, who captains Boroughmuir Rugby Club, has been battling through a calf injury since helping the Edinburgh club gain promotion into the Scottish Premiership last season.
The former Zimbabwe Under-19 skipper has been undergoing light training under physiotherapist Sharon Mukumbuzi.
Quick to the breakdown with an abundance of stamina, Rose will boost a department already regarded the Sables’ strongest.
Liam Middleton, the ZRU’s director of rugby, said Rose would probably go through the mandatory fitness test this morning ahead of the final squad announcement tomorrow.
“We got through (morning session) a lot of good work with pretty much the whole squad,” Middleton told the Daily News yesterday.
“Andy Rose was cleared fit by doctor Austin Jeans and trained with the squad this morning (yesterday) and will probably go through his fitness test tomorrow (today). The team will be announced on Wednesday morning, the (probables v possibles) game that we played on Friday helped us.”
Meanwhile, prop Denford Mutamangira, hooker Simba Mandioma and flank Kingsley Lang, who all picked injuries during Friday’s match, have also recovered.
