HARARE - A number of artistes are yearning for a chance to represent Zimbabwe in this year’s edition of Big Brother Africa (BBA) reality TV show.
This year’s BBA auditions are pencilled for July 12 and 13 at Meikles Hotel in Harare.
More artistes have indicated their willingness to represent the country at the ninth edition of Big Brother Africa, to start on September 7.
Award-winning arts manager Jonathan Banda, who manages dancehall artiste Winky D, real name Wallace Chirumiko, said persisting low turnout at local concerts is not healthy to the sector.
“If all was well in the local showbiz industry, there would be no need for artistes to sacrifice their work by spending three months in the house but because of the low turnout at shows, this means a number of artistes would want to augment their monthly takings by participating in the BBA,” he said.
The Mafirakureva hit maker is widely-tipped to represent the country at this year’s BBA.
“Spending a lot of time in the BBA house is a gamble, it all depends on how much an artiste earns here at home through live concerts among other related jobs,” said Banda, adding that chances for Winky D to represent the country in the BBA were slim.
However, some artistes such as Lady Squanda among others, had already declared their interest in participating in the popular television show.
Other names popping-up include Cynthia Mare and Cindy Munyavi.
Winners are expected to walk away $300 000 richer.
