HARARE - Veteran playwright and novelist Aaron Chiundura-Moyo will unveil his 16th play, Kereke Inofa, during the Zimbabwe International Book Fair (ZIBF) that will take place in Harare from July 28 to August 2.
Booklove, the organisation publishing the new play, told the Daily News that they are proud to be associated with the celebrated author.
“We have been working on the book for a while now and we are very delighted because at long last the book will be unveiled during ZIBF,” said Emmanuel Makadho, the Booklove Publishers’ managing director.
Chiundura-Moyo, who started writing books in the early 1970s, also confirmed the development.
“I am happy to note that the book will finally be published.
“I sent it to the publishers a long time ago and was beginning to get very frustrated,” said the former chief writer of ZBC-TV television series Studio 263 and Tiriparwendo.
The new play revolves around the increasing incidence of infidelity in the modern church and how the vice is threatening the moral fibre of the church.
Though the imminent launch of Kereke Inofa has brought about some welcome respite for Chiundura-Moyo, the veteran author has found no joy with several other publishers still holding on to his manuscripts.
Zimbabwe Publishing House (ZPH), which is expected to publish Chiundura-Moyo’s folk tale titled Chinaku Chinobva Muzevezeve, refused to give a publication date for the book.
“The production is still in progress that is why it is difficult for me to give you a publication date,” was all the ZPH official who identified himself as Mbire could say.
Chiundura-Moyo told the Daily News that he had penned several scripts for television but was being inhibited from releasing them due to financial problems at Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC).
“I almost quit the arts industry because it is just not viable. “ZBC has no money for new productions. My fans, however, continue to encourage me to keep producing more works.
“I will hold onto to the new material until ZBC is in a position to finance new productions,” said the Mafuro Manyoro scriptwriter and actor.
The 64-year-old is widely regarded as one of the best local language writers in Zimbabwe.
Some of his standout books include Uchandifungawo, Wakandicheka Nerakagomara, Yaive Hondo, Ndabve Zera and Chemera Mudundundu.
