EDITOR — I am concerned with the chaos characterising the streets of Harare which has been especially made worse by our overzealous law enforcement agents.
Everyday, we see vendors clashing with municipal police, commuter omnibus operators in dangerous fights with police — a situation which has seen an increase in deaths caused by such encounters and traffic jams especially at termini across the CBD where police are supposed to be putting order.
It is strange that these termini are flooded with commuter omnibuses and small unregistered taxis which are not supposed to be in those termini in the first place.
Police do not seem to mind these taxis yet they are exacerbating the congestion at these omnibus ranks.
Are the police and council getting something from these taxi operators in return for allowing them to conduct their business?
It is time they address this issue so that we can have some semblance of order in the CBD.
