HARARE - Reggae star Mike “MicInity” Madamombe says the hurt he has suffered due to the hacking of his official Facebook page has made him more determined to take his music career to a higher level.
The Marondera-born musician’s page recently carried a message allegedly posted by hackers in which the reggae star bragged about being “a woman basher, a womaniser and drug addict.”
But MicInity told the Daily News yesterday that the post was “clearly the work of enemies of progress.”
“I am really hurt that people can hurt me to this extent,” said the Freedom singer.
“But this won’t pull me down. It only means I am doing things right if people are attacking me like this. This has made me even stronger, more determined to soldier on. Jah works will continue and goodness shall pay.”
Stuts Anje, MicInity’s publicist, said in a separate interview that the hacking was an attempt to derail the reggae singer’s career.
“The past year has seen MicInity go through such a huge transformation career-wise, behaviourally and socially. He regrets his past mistakes and has apologised to all the people he had done wrong to, knowingly and unknowingly.
“It doesn’t then make sense for him to want to throw all this effort by posting something so damning on his Facebook page. This is clearly the work of people that hate to see progress.”
Anje added that drug abuse was not in keeping with MicInity’s Rastafarian religion.
“Being a true Rasta, his religion is against the use or abuse of such intoxicants as claimed on the page. We have advised Mike to ignore these trivialities and stay focused,” She said.
“He will continue with his countrywide tours which have so far taken him to Masvingo, Mutare and Marondera. He will be performing in Norton and Gweru next month. The Rub-a-dub Wednesdays will continue at Misty’s in Newlands.”
MicInity’s spokesperson hinted that the singer’s Facebook page could soon be pulled down and be replaced by a new one.
“There might be need to start anew because the current page has become prone to hackers,” she said.
