HARARE - Highlanders have lost another player to a South African club after defender Khumbulani Banda signed for Maritzburg United yesterday.

Banda had been trying out his luck with Steve Komphela’s team for the past few weeks and the club announced the move on their official website.

“The Team of Choice are determined to strengthen its defence for the coming season. The club has signed 23 year old Zimbabwean left back, Khumbulani Banda for two seasons from Highlanders in Zimbabwe,” said the club.

“The young defender has featured four times already for the Zimbabwean National team, and is considered to be a very skilful defender.

“As the list of signings grows in the Team of Choice, pre-season preparations are also going on very well under head Coach Steve Komphela and his technical team.”

Banda becomes the latest Bosso star to join the great trek to the Super Diski following in the footsteps of Milton Ncube, Kuda Mahachi and Peter “Rio” Moyo.

Ncube joined Ajax Cape Town while Mahachi is now on the books of defending Absa Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns. Moyo was snapped up by Mpumalanga Black Aces.

The Bosso trio caught the eye of the Super Diski clubs during their tour of duty with the Zimbabwe national teams at the African Nations Championship held in South Africa at the start of the year.

Highlanders currently led the local Premiership log standings with 30 points after 15 matches and if they are to go on to win the league, they need to find able replacements for this departing quartet.
