HARARE - President Robert Mugabe has accused some rural schools of lying to him that their institutions were electrified, prompting him to donate computers which are now lying idle.
Delivering the keynote address yesterday in Harare at the launch of the Capacity Development Programme for Teachers, the 90-year-old leader intimated that some schools took him for a ride.
“We donated computers under the presidential computerisation programme so that our students can effectively exploit them to research,” he said.
“I know that in some rural schools in places such as Matabeleland North the computers were locked away and are lying idle.
“They cheated us saying they had electricity and we donated computers and they couldn’t use them. But I do hope that they are gradually electrifying.”
