HARARE - Police have named 16 people killed in a fatal road accident near Bubi River on Monday morning when a minibus collided with a truck.
The fatal accident happened at the 206 km peg along the Masvingo-Beitbridge highway.
Police spokesman chief superintendent Paul Nyathi said on Tuesday the deceased have been positively identified by their next of kin.
The deceased have been identified as Tawedzerwa Charumbira, 56, Stella Nyamutsanza, 34, Amos Zirima, 23, Moses Mutaurwa, 20, Fungisai Jefrey, 39, Lovenes Masvanhire, 36, Coutney Zinhanzva, 3, Tracy Zinhanzva,5-month-old, Susan Gwese, 40, Simbarashe Manyapa, 25, Martha Muzenda, 36, Peter Nekati, 47, Patience Maugara, 33, and Letwin Maugara, 33.Ranganai Kudzokera, a male adult whose age was not given, died upon admission at UBH Hospital in Bulawayo while Madangudza Shungu died on his way to the hospital.
"Police are urging drivers to stick to their road lane whenever they are moving on the road and avoid straddling the other lane especially at night," Nyathi said.
"We are concerned with the narrowness of the Masvingo-Beitbridge Road and appeal to drivers to exercise caution on the road."
