HARARE - Dynamos players yesterday refused to train for the second day in protest over unpaid bonuses and signing on fees.
The Glamour Boys players are also not happy with the club’s policy of not paying those players who are currently injured.
At the moment the club has stopped paying allowances to the likes of Sydney Linyama, Clive Kawinga, Masimba Mambare, Tawanda Muparati and Anesu Gondo, who are in the sick bay.
The Castle Premiership defending champions returned to the capital on Sunday after their 1-0 away win over Highlanders last Saturday.
In preparation for their Chibuku Super Cup first round clash with Black Rhinos his coming Sunday, DeMbare coach Calisto Pasuwa had organised their training sessions to start on Monday.
The players reported for training on Monday but they refused to train unless they were paid their outstanding dues.
Yesterday, the players reported for training at Zimphos Grounds in Msasa but just like on Monday they refused to training until their financial woes were addressed by the club bosses.
“All the new players who were signed at the start of the season and some of us who renewed our contracts are still to get the signing-on fees and all the winning bonuses for all those matches we won last month,” one player told the Daily News yesterday.
“The executive promised us that they would pay us our outstanding money after our home match against CAPS United last month but we never received any thing after that match.
“Right now we want an audience with the club executive but they have been elusive. They have never turned up to the training ground since making that promise.
“What is disappointing is that they were the one who made that promise that our money will be ready after the CAPS game.”
According to another player, they are also boycotting training in solidarity with their injured teammates.
“What pains us is that our fellow teammates who are injured are not receiving any cent from the club and we have to show solidarity with them,” said the players.
“You never know with football it might be myself who is injured and I will find myself in the same boat with the club refusing to pay me.”
Dynamos team manager Richard Chihoro expressed ignorance on the training boycott by the players.
“At the moment I’m out of town and I don’t know anything about a player boycott. According to our training programme we are supposed to return to full training tomorrow (today),” said Chihoro.
“Normally a day after a match we do a loosening training session that lasts an hour and we have one rest day before we resume full training.”
This weekend, the Glamour Boys will have to be at their best when they take on Black Rhinos in the Chibuku Super Cup at Gwanzura Stadium on Sunday.
The army side have been a reformed side since Jostein Mathuthu took over from Arthur Tutani last month.
Two weeks ago, the teams played out a goalless draw in the league at Rimuka Stadium in Kadoma.
