HARARE - Togo-based Ecobank International (Ecobank)’s local unit Ecobank Zimbabwe Limited (EZL) has increased its branch network to 13 following the opening of two additional outlets in Harare.
This comes as the financial group — operating in 33 countries across Africa ? plans to expand its footprint in the country.
“The opening of these additional branches is a testimony of our commitment… in Zimbabwe two years ago, that of making banking reliable, accessible and affordable to our retail and corporate banking customers” said Ecobank’s managing director Daniel Sackey.
While several indigenous banks have closed shop and some scaling down operations, next year, EZL’s growth impetus will be maintained with the opening of additional branches in Gweru and Masvingo amongst other key cities and towns to ensure countrywide coverage.
“This will be buttressed with the launch of new technologically driven banking solutions that will include a robust mobile wallet, a pan African card and acceptance of Visa, MasterCard and China Union Pay cards to offer enhanced convenience, accessibility and affordability to customers in and outside Africa,” said Sackey.
EZL commenced operations in 2011 with three branches in Harare and Bulawayo following the acquisition of a 70 percent stake in Premier Finance Group. Since entering Zimbabwe, Ecobank has invested nearly $43 million.
