HARARE - The Zimbabwe Football Association (Zifa) yesterday appointed coaches for all the junior national teams with Dynamos coach Calisto Pasuwa becoming the substantive Under-23 coach.
With the Warriors disbanded and with no coach after Ian Gorowa’s resignation earlier this month, Pasuwa becomes the de facto national team coach.
Zifa say they are now concentrating on the junior teams since the Warriors will be out of action for at least two years following their failure to qualify for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.
“Calisto Pasuwa, formerly assistant to Ian Gorowa takes over as the national Under-23 head coach following the departure of former Warriors skipper Peter Ndlovu who joined Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa as team manager,” Zifa said in a statement last night.
“Jairos Tapera has been reappointed as the national Under-20 coach after recommendations from the Zifa High Performance team.
“Tafadzwa Mashiri, who formerly coached Gutu High School in 2012 is the newly appointed head coach for the Under-17 national team.
“Former Kiglon head coach Pearson Matipedza has been appointed as the new national Under-15 head coach. James Mohala from the Naph structures will head the Under-13 national team.”
Coaches for the junior women national teams will be as follows. Sithethelelwe “Kwinji 15” Sibanda is now in charge of the Under-20 and Under-23 teams.
The Under-17 team will be under the tutelage of Evlyn Rimai while Anne Konje has been appointed as the Under-15 head coach.
