KADOMA - Harare City caretaker coach Masimba Dinyero continued with his fine start at the Sunshine Boys when they knocked ZPC Kariba out of Chibuku Super Cup here yesterday.
Dinyero, who replaced Bigboy Mawiwi last month, is still unbeaten in three league matches and extended that good start into the cup competition when Osbourne Mukuradare headed home the winning goal just after halftime.
Mukuradare rose highest inside the box to connect with William Manondo’s corner kick and his header was too powerful for ZPC keeper Tendai Hove.
That was the only goal of the match and it was enough to send the undefeated log leaders out of the knockout tournament at the first round stage.
ZPC have been a force to reckon with in the Castle Premiership where they have gone on a unbeaten run of 19 matches after gaining promotion from the lower division last year.
Their bubble however, burst yesterday at the hands of a well drilled Harare City side that looks like they are now getting to the grasps of Dinyero’s methods.
In the first half, ZPC should have taken n early lead in the ninth minute but defender Dennis Dauda had his header parried over the bar by City goalie Maxwell Nyamupanedengu.
That was Zimbabwe Power Company-owned side best chance of the match as they failed to trouble Nyamupanedengu’s goal for the remainder of the match.
After the match, Dinyero was pleased with his side’s progression to the quarterfinal stage of the $500 000 tournament.
“I’m happy with the performance of my boys because they played to instructions and they are also the first team to inflict ZPC Kariba with their first defeat of the season,” said Dinyero.
ZPC Kariba coach Saul Chaminuka was disappointed by the complacency shown by his players.
“I blame my boys complacency because they were still on an unbeaten run this season and thought that it was going to be a stroll in the park against Harare City,” said Chaminuka.
