HARARE - Trailblazing interdenominational gospel choir, Zim Praise, pulled a bumper crowd at their maiden 2014 concert at Harare International Conference Centre (HICC) on New Year’s Day.
The HICC was packed to the rafters despite rains which had pounded the capital.
The concert speaks volumes to the ever-growing fan base of the exuberant gospel group.
The colourful interdenominational group, whose hit song Sungano is dominating music charts, is growing from strength to strength. Last year, the group managed to stage maiden international tours in the United Kingdom and Dubai.
On New Year’s day, Zim Praise gave a sterling performance.
Tendai Zhou, Zim Praise’s head of public relations, told the Daily News yesterday they feel humbled by their fans’ turnout.
“As a choir we fell so humbled and grateful because of the level of loyalty shown by our fans on our concert. The attendance was so motivational,” Zhou said.
As expected, the hit Sungano created a buzz during the concert.
Zhou told the Daily News that the choir’s vision was to get the people together through worship.
“With the attendances we are having, we are seeing the fulfilment of our vision to get the world together through worship. I am sure the New Year’s Day concert speaks volumes,” added Zhou.
The gospel choir had a busy festive season. The group will take a break the whole of January and resume shows in February when they will hold auditions to fill in the demanding growth of the choir.
Tembalami, Sebastian Magacha and Mathias Mhere spiced up the concert with their exuberance on stage.
Zim Praise was formed in 2006 as a result of a strong desire to unite various denominations in Zimbabwe through song and worship.
Ever since the interdenominational group recorded its first album titled Zim Praise Volume 1 in December of 2007, the group has recorded six live DVD recordings.
Their last recording released last month contains 35 songs.
The highly successful album, which contains the song Sungano, featured gospel musician Mathias Mhere.
