HARARE - This weekend, stand-up comedy goes to Mutare as Carl Joshua Ncube and his band of merry men take their #FeelGoodZimbabwe comedy tour to the eastern highlands. Backed by rising star Comedy Q and Log John, Ncube takes his tour to the city he went to school.
The stand-up comic went to Mutare Junior School.
This is the first place he cut his teeth in stand-up comedy in 2010.
Carl has taken a number of young comedians under his wing.
His show on Saturday is scheduled for the Golden Peacock Hotels and Villas. It is part of his grand idea to setup comedy nights around Zimbabwe.
Carl has already concluded deals to do monthly comedy in Kariba, Kadoma and Norton.
He said it was important for the growth of stand-up comedy that a circuit gets setup around the country which will grow fresh new talent.
“Comedians like Q have already benefitted from the comedy circuit setup in Harare and now using my tour, I can now begin to introduce some of these comedians to the rest of the country through this ground-breaking tour,” he told the Daily News.
“It is important to look beyond my own comedy career for now because there isn’t a playing field for great comedy to come out of Zimbabwe hence the tour and setting up of comedy nights around Zimbabwe.
Once we have a scenario where comedy spaces exist and have diverse audiences, then comedy in Zimbabwe can certainly grow to international levels.”.
Carl follows up his national tour with a tour to South Africa, then United Kingdom, Australia before capping it off with Canada.
