MUTARE- A conman has been jailed for 10 months by Mutare magistrate Annie Ndiraya.

Simba Kwaramba, 34, was given an option to restitute the $420 he prejudiced Engrome Chiname on the false promise of registering his company.

Four months were suspended for five years on condition he did not commit a similar offence.

It is the State’s case that on February 14, Kwaramba approached Chiname at his work station and inquired if his company was registered. He said it was not.

Misrepresenting himself as a company registering agent, Kwaramba convinced Chiname to pay him for the service.

On February 18, Kwaramba collected $250 to register the company from the complainant. He came back two days later to collect a further $100, and he issued a receipt without a serial number.

Two months later, Chiname inquired on progress made and was assured by Kwaramba that the certificate of incorporation was ready for collection in Harare. He was again paid a further $70 before disappearing for good.

On realising that he had been duped, Chiname inquired in person with the Registrar of Companies. He was told that his company had not been registered.

He then registered his company and made a police report, leading to Kwaramba’s arrest.

Cuthbert Bhosha was prosecuting.
