HARARE – Top karateka Sensei Samson Muripo is confident that the Zimbabwe team, which left the country for the World Karate Championships in Durban South Africa yesterday, will acquit themselves well.

“We are now ready for the event. We have done our preparations well and we are expecting to win a number of medals at the championships,” Muripo told the Daily News yesterday.

“Technically this tournament is proving to be one of the best world tournaments. As a country we take this event seriously because it is a good platform to rate ourselves.

“From our previous participation in the world tournaments, we have proved that we have good karatekas, we are equally gifted, talented and we are ranked among the best in the world. We have no reason to fear anyone.

“Personally I want to be at my best in order to raise my family name, community and nation at large.

“I have mastered the art of fighting over the years. Our mind as fighters has to be equipped to know how to approach a specific opposition and that is the key to success.”

Muripo together with Austin Mucheni and Brian Chiringa will represent Zimbabwe in the middleweight category while Thulani Mphosa will compete in the lightweight category.

Naison Chituwa, Admire Chingozhoro and Likhwa Khumalo will hope raise the country’s flag in the heavyweight category.
