HARARE - Unheralded United Family International Church (UFIC) Choir is up for five gongs in the revived Zimbabwe Music Awards (Zima) set for the Rainbow Towers on October 3.
The UFIC choir has been nominated in the Best Duo or Group, Best Contemporary Choral Music categories for the albums Divine Solutions Volumes 2 and 3 as well as We Are Family Volume 1.
The choir, sponsored by United Family International Church led by celebrity preacher Emmanuel Makandiwa, was also nominated in the Album of the Year Category.
Jah Prayzah, who won four awards in the National Arts Merit Awards (Nama) early this year, is in the running for four gongs. The Sungano hit maker’s albums Tsviriyo and Kumbumura Mhute have been nominated in the Best Traditional Music Category. Tsviriyo is also among albums to be considered in the Best Male and Album of the Year categories.
Dancehall sensation Soul Jah Love and gospel artiste Fungisayi Zvakavapano-Mashavave have three nominations each. Zvakavapano-Mashavave has been nominated for Best Female Artist; Best Collaboration and Best Traditional Gospel Music categories while Soul Jah Love’s Ndini Uya Uya is in the running for the Best Dancehall Music, Best Male Artist and Album of the Year awards.
Controversial music producer Dr Clarence, hip hop star Tehn Diamond, Zimpraise Choir, Clare Nyakujara, Edith WeUtonga, Mathias Mhere and Shinsoman got two nominations each.
Popular artistes such as Suluman Chimbetu, Trevor Dongo, Somandla Ndebele, Alexio Kawara, Selmor Mtukudzi and Winky D got one nomination each.
