HARARE - Former Zimbabwe international cricket umpire Quintin Goosen has died aged 67.
Goosen, who was born at Lonely Mine in Matabeleland, officiated in a single Test match and 12 ODIs before settling at Bryden Country School in Chegutu, where he lost his battle for life on Wednesday.
In memory of Goosen, the Zimbabwe team wore black arm-bands during their triangular ODI series match against South Africa yesterday.
Goosen played cricket for Mashonaland Country Districts before becoming an umpire in Zimbabwe's domestic first-class cricket competition, the Logan Cup, from 1994 to 2002.
He rose to the international level of officiating and was an umpire in the second Test between Zimbabwe and Pakistan at the Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo in February 1995.
Goosen also umpired 12 ODI matches from 1994 to 2001: six at Harare Sports Club and six at Queens Sports Club.
One of his three sons, Glenn, also became a competent cricketer on the Zimbabwean domestic scene. He was admitted at the CFX Academy in 2002 and played for Alexandra Sports Club as a wicketkeeper-batsman.
