HARARE - CAPS United lost ground in the Castle Premiership title race after being held to a one all draw by Bantu Rovers at Hartsfield in Bulawayo yesterday.
United’s trip to Bulawayo hung in the balanced on Wednesday after players initially refused to board the team bus demanding payment of outstanding salaries and bonuses.
They finally left the capital later in the evening, only arriving in the City of Kings early yesterday morning.
United had shown potential to mount a sustained title challenge this season following nine years of underachievement, but the reoccurring monetary issues at the club might throw spanners in coach Taurai Mangwiro’s work.
Meanwhile, Jairos Tapera began life as Shabanie Mine coach with a 2-0 win over Hwange in Zvishavane yesterday.
Tapera who joined from cross town rivals FC Platinum with the mandate of saving the Chinda Boys from relegation, gave the Shabanie faithful hope of survival with a commanding display.
He was an assistant coach at Platinum.
The day belonged to veteran midfielder Rowan Nenzou, whose industry made the difference as he was instrumental in both goals.
Nenzou, who made a return to Shabanie during the second half of the season from Chiredzi, was felled down just outside the box for left-back Terence Majo to take the resultant free-kick.
Mojo put the ball in the far right corner beyond a diving Timothy Sibanda in the 38th minute.
Nenzou was again involved in the second goal after providing an assist from which Zvenyika Makonese scored with a header eight minutes from time.
