HARARE - Red Fox proprietor Robert Zhuwao, who is among African promoters who intend to bring Jamaican reggae band Morgan Heritage to Africa, says the Ebola outbreak has forced them to plan anew the pending tour.
Zhuwao said the Ebola scourge has necessitated the removal of West Africa from the planned tour expected to take place in December.
“Initially Morgan Heritage had planned to tour Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda, Nigeria, Zimbabwe and most probably South Africa. “However, it seems the group is now contemplating skipping West African countries, fearing the Ebola outbreak,” he said.
The Red Fox owner added that the African promoters involved will share the costs of bringing the celebrated Jamaican band.
“Even if Morgan Heritage goes ahead with the tour of Zimbabwe and other parts of Africa unaffected by Ebola, the remaining promoters are going to incur huge costs if West African promoters withdraw,” he said.
The internationally famous reggae band formed in 1994 by five children of reggae artist Denroy Morgan: Peter aka Peetah, Una, Roy aka Gramps, Nakhamyah aka Lukes and Memmalatel aka Mr. Mojo.
Though three family members left the group after the release of their debut album Miracles, Morgan Heritage continued to scale the heights. In addition to releasing a number of internationally acclaimed albums, the group has also had the chance to work with talented and popular reggae music producers like Lloyd James.
Notable albums released by the group include Protect Us Jah, One Calling, Don’t Haffi Dread, More Teachings, Three in One, Full Circle and Mission In Progress .
The group, which performed in Kenya in 2009, has worked with different talented artistes such as Capleton, Junior Kelly, Luciano, Gentleman and Beres Hammond among others.
In 2012 Morgan Heritage released the single The Return which put them on another level before releasing the album Here Come the Kings last year.
