HARARE - Highlanders midfielder Felix Chindungwe’s scintillating performance during his team’s 3-1 win over How Mine in the Chibuku Super Cup on Sunday earned him the “saviour” tag from his coach Kelvin Kaindu.
The win at Hartsfield Rugby Ground, which saw Bosso reach the semi-finals of the inaugural competition, was revenge for their defeat to their city neighbours, who beat them 4-3 on penalty shootout in the NetOne Wallet Challenge Cup.
Chindungwe, acquired from another Bulawayo outfit Chicken Inn at the beginning of the season, seems to have fitted well into the Bosso set-up.
The fringe Zimbabwe international is versatile and can also play in defence.
From midfielder, Chindungwe is slowly turning into a handy scorer in addition to his defensive roles.
On Sunday, he put Bosso ahead on 28 minutes with a thumping header pas How Mine goalkeeper Nonjabulo Dube.
Apart from the goal, he was also rock solid in central midfield and ventured upfront a lot to unsettle How Mine defenders.
He had also been on target the previous week, albeit in a losing cause to Dynamos, who hammered them 4-1 in the TM Pick n Pay Challenge Cup final in Harare.
“Chindungwe’s form has been very good, especially in the cup games,” said Zambian Kaindu after the game.
“He has been a saviour for us in many cup games and I hope he will do the same in the league games.”
Defender Dumisani Ndlovu grabbed Highlanders’ second goal in the 55th minute with a header, his first goal in Bosso colours before forward Charles Sibanda extended the cushion from the penalty spot in the 67th minute.
How Mine got their solitary goal through striker Kuda Musharu.
