HARARE - Zimbabwe's DJ Butterphly, 24, has flown herself into this year’s Big Brother Africa (BBA) Hotshots set to kick off on October 5.

The Mohawk-sporting Power FM DJ and television presenter, is one of Zimbabwe’s two housemates who will be in the running to win a massive prize of $300 000 in Africa’s biggest reality show.

Butterphly, a mother of two, believes she has what it takes to last the distance.

“I want to be vital like oxygen… and be really important so that Africa keeps me in the house,” she said in an interview with Mnet, the producers of the reality show.

The eloquent DJ, however, refused to state her position on relationships arguing that falling in love should never be part of a strategy.

She describes herself as “unique, feisty, mysterious, fun-loving and witty,” but it will be up to Zimbabweans and the rest of Africa to judge her qualities.

Butterphly, who lives with her mother and siblings, revealed that she aspires to be someone people will emulate and will not be involved in mean backstabbing while in the house.

The Zimbabwean BBA representative, who regrets that she never got the chance to be part of a national sports team, is relishing the opportunity to raise the Zimbabwean flag high.

“Being on Big Brother Africa will allow me to market myself and expand my brand,” she said.

If she bags the $300 000 prize, Butterphly has promised to send her siblings and children to top-rate schools, start a chain of unique food, social and fashion hangout joints and also take her mother on a shopping spree.

But the Power FM DJ’s entry in Africa’s richest reality show has already sparked off a storm on social media.

Some Big Brother fans who watched her interview on the BBA website were not impressed by her looks but others praised her eloquence.

Below are some selected comments from the reality show’s website:

Sigabird Kudzie Sigauke, “she is good…she speaks good English too.”

Motsamai R Tladi, “Biggie no offence but hotshots means hot.”

Thandi Ndlovu, “Go...Superphly.”

Vimbainashe Zulu, “OMG seriously?????”

Thomson Masvaure, “Go for it girl. I am personally behind you all the way.”

Butterphly was unveiled yesterday alongside Alusa, a 33-year-old Kenyan actor and drama director. Alusa, who hails from Nairobi, is married and has three children.

The third housemate that was revealed yesterday was 23-year-old Ellah, a sales assistant with a BSc in Business Computing from Nsambya, Uganda.
