HARARE - Highlanders executive last night decided against sacking coach Kelvin Kaindu following a spate of poor results.
Kaindu has come in for the stick from irate Bosso fans who have, for the third straight year, seen their team falter in their quest to win the league championship.
The Bulawayo giants’ poor form has seriously dented their chances of winning the Castle Lager Premiership title despite a bright start.
The Bulawayo giants’ executive held a crisis meeting with Kaindu last night and decided not to part ways with the Zambian.
The Daily News understands that the Bosso executive was deterred against sacking the coach because they would be obliged to pay the Zambian a hefty severance package as he still has a running contract which ends in December 2015.
On Saturday, Harare City, who had a dreadful start to their campaign before changing coaches, drove the dagger into the hearts of Highlanders fans with a 1-0 defeat which all but ended the Bulawayo giants’ hopes of winning the title.
Highlanders have only won twice in their last eight matches in the league which has seen the Bulawayo giants lose ground on log leaders Dynamos.
That poor run of form has seen Bosso trail DeMbare by four points with only seven games to go before the season ends.
The destiny of the Castle Premiership title is now out of Bosso’s hands and they now hope that DeMbare slip up in these remaining games.
This is highly unlikely considering that Dynamos play most of those matches in Harare where they generally done well this season.
Kaindu’s future at Bosso had also become subject of much speculation following the 4-1 defeat at the hands of bitterest rivals- Dynamos – in the TM Pick’n’Pay Challenge Cup earlier this month match.
