CAPE TOWN - Zimbabwe will come out firing against Uganda today with emphasis on attack after a flurry of missed chances denied them a famous win against Morocco on Sunday – coach Ian Gorowa and striker Simba Sithole warned yesterday.
The Warriors take on table-topping Uganda in their second Group B match of the Chan finals at Athlone Stadium in Cape Town (kickoff 5pm), aiming to put one foot in the quarter-finals with a win against the East Africans, who lead the pool following their opening 2-0 defeat of Burkina Faso.
The Zimbabwean on Sunday struck the woodwork once and squandered further opportunities against the fancied Moroccans, touted by many as the favourites in the group.
And now, Gorowa wants to quickly forget the disappointment of missing out on what would have been a dream result for his team against the Atlas Lions.
“The boys played well against Morocco, but what we need tomorrow are goals,” Gorowa said yesterday.
“We have no option but to utilise all chances and they shall be no place for mediocrity. Uganda is a good side, but Zimbabwe is strong too. We are confident that we will pull beyond group stages.”
The 43-year-old coach hinted that the Warriors may make some changes in their side for the Uganda test, although only in strategic positions. `
"We are likely to have a few changes to the team. I am adamant that the team that played against Morocco is a force to reckon on. Masimba (Mambare) is physically fit, depending on the circumstances, we will also give him the chance to play."
Dynamos forward Simba Sithole, who was a breath of fresh air with his occasional glimpses of aggression and acceleration against Morocco, says the Warriors attackers will rectify their mistakes today.
“Every team in this competition is strong. Our major weakness in the last match was finishing. There is a skill that we have mastered that will give us goals. We will damage Uganda and finish off Burkina Faso.”
