BULAWAYO - A 30-year-old Mabvuku man and his colleague have been hauled before the courts for stealing irrigation pipes worth nearly $5 000 from Moaray Primary School in Bulawayo.
It is alleged that on January 5 at around 12:20pm Gerald Mavhinyu and Nyasha Jiga, 25 who resides at Nketa 8 and the other two accomplices who are still at large went to the primary school grounds and stole 60 three metre irrigation pipes worth $4 800.
The court heard that on January 4, the headmistress of the school Nomthandazo Phili, 49, left irrigation pipes in the school grounds.
When Phili reported for duty the following morning she discovered the pipes were missing, and reported the matter to ZRP Hillside.
Acting on a tip off, the police arrested two people who bought the pipes from the accused persons and they recovered pieces of the stolen pipes before they searched Jiga’s house where they found the two accused persons but nothing out of the stolen goods was recovered.
Magistrate Gladmore Mushove denied the accused persons bail and remanded them in custody until January 24.
Their other two colleagues escaped and are still on the run.
