HARARE - An airtime vendor yesterday offered $10 for each of his four children in child support, against his wife’s demand of $250 per month.

Idzai Posvo told magistrate Rekina Dzikiti that her husband, Tapfumaneyi Magurane, who is an airtime vendor realises $600 every month and recently bought two vehicles.

She said Magurane left their matrimonial home and is no longer taking care of his family.

“He is an airtime vendor and realises about $600 every month.

“We used to sell airtime together and we bought two cars through our business, but he ran away from me. He is no longer staying at our house,” Posvo said.

She said Magurane was lying since he recently purchased a stand and uses their vehicles as taxis.

However, Magurane told the court his wife was lying, claiming that he only gets $96 every month.

“I can only afford $40 that is $10 per child. I used to pay for the children’s school fees, food and buy uniforms before she took them to her relatives.

“She told me that the children are no longer mine. I am struggling to make ends meet your worship, I am staying with my friend and I only earn $96 per month,” Magurane said.

Posvo argued that the money was not enough as the children’s school fees arrears was in arrears.

Magistrate Dzikiti ordered Magurane to pay $150.

He advised him not to neglect his children by offering a paltry $10, adding that the amount was an insult and not enough for a child who goes to school.
